LEAP Together – Career and Life Transitions in Dance and Sport

LEAP Together is a pioneering international conference in Canada looking at the common bonds between dance artists and elite athletes. International experts and stakeholders will take up the opportunity to learn and exchange knowledge on various topics related to transition for our high performers – professional dancers and elite athletes.

The conference will take place on 11. and 12.11.2016 in Toronto/Canada and was initiated by Leading Edge After Performance (LEAP). LEAP is an alliance between the Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC) and the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO). Both organisations recognise the intersections within the careers and transitions of highly professional dancers and elite athletes and, as pioneers in this field, drive for innovative collaboration concerning transition.

ICU – annual scholarship

ICU stands for “I See You” and is an age-independent (!) funding concept for future managers of economy and industry. „[The] most innovative and promising talents [are encouraged to] help each other grow, [by] sharing their experiences, goals and passions with each other in a creative atmosphere. The ICU-scholarship is meant to offer the best to the best and provide these talents with international practical experience, successful and inspiring mentors and a worldwide network to open doors and offer global perspectives.“ (1)

Transitioning dancers who are enrolled in a university or higher education institute are an interesting target group for the ICU-scholarship, as former dancers are outstandingly dedicated and inter-culturally trained over many years. They are sensitive communicators and know about nonverbal effectiveness. And they have creativity in their blood. Therefore, the coordinator of the ICU-Program, Till Mahler, especially encourages dancers in transition who are currently studying to apply. (2)

Apart from a monthly aid of 300,00 € the main focus of the ICU-Program is on various ideational support. The career network helps individually with following tools:
top internships and Gap Year projects
executive coaching and seminars
mentoring
high visibility in top-management positions of global companies
support for studying abroad

The ICU-scholarship is open to:
all disciplines
capable BA- / MA-students and exam candidates

2017 reduction in contributions to the Künstlersozialkasse (KSK)

The social security contributions for artists are set up in a pay-as-you-go system. The amount is annually recalculated for the following calendar year. (1) In 2017, the contributions to the Künstlersozialkasse will drop from 5,2 percent to 4,8 percent, as published in the Federal Law Gazette on 11th of August 2016. (2)

At the moment, around 185.000 freelance artists and publicists are state-insured for sickness, care and retirement. Just as dependant employees, the clients of the KSK cover half of their social security contributions. The other half is payed for in 20 percent via government grant and 30 percent from the social security contributions of companies (based on artistic and journalistic performance efficiency)

Little job description: occupational health manager

Demand for qualified specialists in health management and prevention is rising. Therefore, it is not surprising that educational offers in the field of health management are also appearing more and more nationwide. But there are huge discrepancies in regards to quality, cost and certificates of qualification.

Guidance for reliable standards in education, and especially for further education in occupational health management are given by the “Recommendations for training in health management“ from the independent federal association for occupational health management (BBGM), that was published early in 2016 on the association’s website:

www.bgmbv.de/fil…

Members of the BBGM who follow the above recommendations for training are business enterprises as well as various educational institutions, for example the state approved Hochschule für Prävention und Gesundheitsmanagement (Academy for prevention and health management) where you can obtain a BA and MA of the same name (monthly tuition fees = 330,00 € / MA= 390,00 €): www.dhfpg.de/bac…

If the aim is not a time consuming study course at a university, but rather a compact, certified training program, this is possible at the BSA Academy for Prevention, Fitness and health. They offer the following courses:

Specialist for BGM (IHK, 1.290,00 €) / Adviser for corporate fitness (249,00 €) / Occupational health manager (1.298,00 €)/ Health manager in business (998,00 €) / Health expert for KMU* (2.598,00 €): www.bsa-akademie.de/leh…

For those who want to know which other institutions observe the standards laid down by the Federal Association for Occupational Health Management (BBGM) further information can be found here: www.bgm-bv.de/mit…

New training program!
A university certificate for “Prevention counselling and company job security“ can be obtained from the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg by in-service education over 10 months (fees: 4.550,00 €). Unfortunately, the application deadline for 2017 expired on 31th of October 2016, as posted on our Facebook page in due time. Nevertheless, here is some further information about the course: www.h-brs.de/de…
