Mourning the death of Kim Ry Andersen

We are deeply saddened to announce that Kim Ry Andersen, a prominent Danish music manager and politician, passed away on December 25, 2024, in Bonn at the age of 78. Born on February 15, 1946, in Copenhagen, Andersen led a distinguished career in cultural administration and management.

As a founding member and long-standing member of the Board of Trustees (Kuratorium) of Stiftung TANZ – Transition Center Germany, Kim Ry Andersen played a crucial role in shaping our foundation. Since our establishment in 2010, his expertise and dedication have been instrumental in supporting dancers in their career transitions.

Early Life and Education

Kim Ry Andersen was born on February 15, 1946, in Copenhagen. He attended school in Copenhagen and spent one year in San Francisco. In 1964, he began studying medicine but later switched to law and business administration at the University of Copenhagen[1].

Career Highlights

  • After his studies, he worked as a legal trainee in the Danish Ministry of Justice and later in the Ministry of Culture as a personal advisor to the Danish Minister of Culture
  • From 1970 to 1975, he served as a government and senior government councilor in the Museums and Libraries departments of the Danish Ministry of Culture
  • From 1975 to 1992, he held various positions at the Royal Danish Theatre, including managing director, general secretary, personal advisor to the general director, and deputy director
  • From 1992 to 1994, he was appointed as administrative director and deputy director at the Opera House in Halle an der Saale
  • In 1994, he moved to the Dresden Music Festival as administrative director and deputy director, where he remained until 2012
  • Since 2010 he was a member of the Board of Trustees (Kuratorium) of Stiftung TANZ – Transition Center Germany
  • After retiring in 2012, Andersen volunteered as chairman of the board of the Heinrich Schütz Conservatory Dresden from 2012 to 2014
