Learning subsidy and savings credit help to finance further education

The so-called “Bildungsprämie” (learning subsidy) from the federal government supports employed people over 25 who want to continue education (recipients of unemployment benefit excluded). The state assumes up to € 500 of incurred expenses for courses and exams, if the education program itself is no more than €1.000,00. It is required that the applicant works for a minimum of 15 hours a week and accumulates a maximal yearly taxable income of € 20.000 (for married couples and registered life partners € 40.000).

The “Spargutschein” (savings credit) helps to finance more expensive and usually longer education programs and is age and income independent. It is based on the capital formation law (VermBG) with its option of employee savings allowance, a “federally granted allowance for the promotion of capital formation for employees (capital forming benefits).” (1) This means the employer saves up on behalf of his employees, supported by the state that partially subsidises the monthly reserves or allows tax advantages.

Since 2008 it is possible to partially free up the capital saved by capital forming benefits early to use it for further education programs. Under the condition that the aspired qualification conveys “knowledge and skills that serve career advancement and go beyond a workplace-based training.” (2) The employer has to agree to an early withdrawal of the savings and the further education program must be verified.
For both the Bildungsprämie and the Spargutschein a consultation session at one of the nationwide information centres is mandatory.

Community Dance

On our Facebook page we posted on 1th of August 2016 about the current education program on Community Dance of the union for dance pedagogics (DBfT) in Dortmund:www.facebook.com/Sti…

“Every person is a dancer” is the creed of Community Dance. To move in the shapes of elementary dance, to meet other people and enjoy dancing together, that is the principle of Community Dance. It enhances health and wellbeing, because community and the joy of easily reproducible movement sequences to music help to dismantle inner and outer barriers. This is particularly important for people with limited mobility, such as the physically disabled. The Stadttheater Fürth has made some experience with Community Dance, as we mentioned in our Facebook post with this link: www.stadttheater.de/stf…

Anyone who wishes to explore Community Dance some more can do so in October at the DBfT. A practical seminar is offered about the “Pedagogical approach for Community Dance”.

The seminar will take place on the 2th and 3th of October (12 a.m. – 6 p.m./11 a.m. – 5 p.m.) at the Ballettzentrum Westfalen Dortmund. Participation is 370,00 € for non-members and 270,00 € for DBfT-members.

Little job description: art geragogics

“In the future, older people and – from today’s standards – very old people will influence the demographic significantly more than today. […] The numerically strongest [2060] will be the age group of 70 year olds, born around 1990. ” (1), says Bettina Sommer from the Federal Statistical Office.

This demographic trend towards more elderly, old and very old people will fundamentally influence the service sector and as such also the job market. Already today, many professional prospects open up if you know how to attune to the demands and needs of elderly and old people. Art geragogics, a still very new profession, are qualified experts who work creatively and artistically with various groups of elderly, promoting general wellbeing and health. Places of action for art geragogics can be not just homes for the elderly and multi-generation houses but also hospitals, residential and day-patient nursing homes, hospices, various educational and cultural institutions as well as various providers for health, wellness and prevention programs.

The Bundesakademie Wolfenbüttel offers a modular part-time further education program in art geragogic with the focus topic DANCE. This October sees the beginning of the already 6th course of “ARTgeragogic – cultural education with the elderly” consisting of seven modules (160 hours). Additional hours for self study, internships, following up and preparation of the modules and for the final colloquium must be added. Expenses: € 1.829 (including fees board and lodging), plus material € 70,00.

For the legally protected occupational title of “art geragogic” you must invest time in an 8th module and two additional care internships of 40 hours. But the effort pays off when you obtain the recognition of § 87 b (47b) Abs. 3 and 47a of the SGB XI, particularly important for freelance art geragogics who can then render accounts for their care services as care and so-called activation via their social care insurance. The 7th course in “ARTgeragogic – cultural education with the elderly” is expected to start in the first half of 2017.
