Career idea: travel guide

Germany and Europe are becoming more and more attractive to foreigners as destinations. Numerous travel agencies (Education First, Globus, Insight, Trafalgar, among others) are thus looking for travel guides for groups that are traveling through Europe (several days or weeks). This is a challenging task for which language skills (English a second European language are an absolute necessity) and international experience play an important role. Strong communication skills and a talent for organization and improvisation should be present; some knowledge of history and art is an advantage. You can then combine your own desire to travel with making a living. Travel or tour guides often work as freelancers and seasonally; this job is thus suitable as financial support during a period of transition or in combination with other project-oriented work. A lateral entry into this job is possible, as is a further qualification in the field of tourism. More information from Andreas Müller:a.myller@gmx.de.

Grants from Stiftung TANZ

During the first round in 2015, Stiftung TANZ awarded a total of 14,800 € in grants to nine dancers in transition. Four of these dancers have been repeatedly supported by Stiftung TANZ. The dancers are using the grants to help them study psychology, medicine, theater sciences and take further education courses such as dance therapy, Pilates and MBSR. We wish you all utmost success.

Study grants from other foundations

Studying at state universities in Germany is free of charge, except for a semester fee of max. 300.– € per semester (incl. a public transportation pass). The main cost factors are the cost of living, health insurance (after reaching the age of 32 all student rates end), books and recreational activities. Most students finance their studies from many sources: BAföG, grants, financial aid and side jobs. Grants are the best, because you don’t need to pay them back. Study grants are offered by innumerable foundations and are often specifically designed for specific fields of study. Intensive research as well as the investment in an application (i.e., collecting recommendations) are worth it – you can receive many hundreds of Euro per month as a full grant recipient for a number of years. There are many data banks on the internet. Here is a list of the various foundations that offer grants:

Benefits

After numerous benefits in 2015 – at the Hamburg Ballett, the Friedrichstadtpalast, the Stuttgarter Ballett, Dance Company Nanine Linning / Theater Heidelberg and most recently the big event at the Staatstheater Kassel and Tanzcompagnie Giessen – the Gauthier Dance Company will perform KAMUYOT on June 30th 2015 at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart. numerous other benefits will take place soon on the occasion of our fifth anniversary. The Kevin O’Day Ballett NTM will celebrate the premiere of the choreographic workshop at the Nationaltheater Mannheim to our benefit on July 23rd 2015. The Bayerische Staatsballett is next on October 30th 2015; they will show “Le Corsaire” and €5 per ticket will benefit the foundation. On January 6th 2016, the Ballett Hagen will present a benefit, just like it did this year.
