Stiftung TANZ’s 5th anniversary in 2015

We will start 2015 with a celebration of the 5th anniversary of our foundation. Stiftung TANZ – Transition Center Germany was founded on January 19th 2010 as the result of a private initiative; since then, it has advised, coached and financially supported over 600 dancers in the context of transition issues. Hundreds of other dancers were informed about the subject. To celebrate this anniversary, numerous special events are planned, among them benefits by ballet and dance companies. On January 11th 2015, the Hamburg Ballett – John Neumeier, the head of our advisory board, will start with a ballet workshop followed up by a performance at the Friedrichstadtpalast Berlin on January 20th as well as a Onegin evening at the Stuttgarter Ballett on February 27th 2015. In the spring, benefit events follow at the Ballett Theater Augsburg, the Ballett des Nationaltheaters Mannheim and the Gauthier Dance Company – all in support of our foundation.

Thank you for this fantastic backing!

Career information: a social work degree

Those who like to have contact with others and have a heart for the disadvantaged can find satisfaction in the social field. Social work is especially practice-oriented. Social workers support needy people of all ages with very practical assistance. The three-year BA degree “Social Work” includes social psychiatry, family and school counseling as well as clinical social work and developmental rehabilitation. The degree programs are made up of a different number of modules, depending on the university, and are comprised of courses, practical modules and a BA paper. The latter is written at the end of the degree program. Phases of practical work are completed at agencies that perform cultural and social work.
Examples of modules are: family and school counseling, history, basic terminology, fields of social work, administration and organizational activity; children, youth, adult, senior citizen social work; people and organizations; precarious living situations; legal foundations for social work; social inequality; social psychiatry; social politics.
The focus or emphases of the degree programs in the area of social work can differ from one university to the next.
After completing a BA program in the social work field, a direct introduction into a career in various areas such as social counseling, work or pedagogical work (no teaching) is possible. The move into self-employment can also be considered, for example, as a youth counselor or rehabilitation teacher. Management positions generally require an MA degree (approximately two years of study). When the respective university’s entrance prerequisites have been fulfilled, you can continue studying after completing a BA degree in social work in an additional field of study and attain an MA – for example, in social work, social sciences or social management.

A year in review: 2014

At the beginning of December we offered counseling to the 600th dancer since Stiftung TANZ was founded. In total, 100 dancers addressed Stiftung TANZ for the first time in 2014; 264 were advised continuously. In the course of the year, 600 discussion took place per telephone, e-mail, skype or eye to eye. Three transition workshops took place. The project director held six lectures at companies or independent production venues (Tanztendenz München, Stuttgarter Ballett, The Forsythe Company, Bielefeld, Nürnberg, Hamburg Ballett), two at educational institutions (Münchener Ballettakademie, Schule des Hamburg Ballett); there were also five counseling days outside of the foundation’s offices. In addition, the Stiftung TANZ awarded 26 grants to dancers who were taking further education courses in 2014. Since the foundation was founded, grants with a sum total of over EUR 90,000 were awarded.
