On Thursday April 16th 2015, our board of trustees member John Neumeier was invited by the Allianz Kulturstiftung to the ‚Pariser Platz der Kulturen’ in Berlin. The ‚Pariser Platz der Kulturen’ series was initiated in 2011 and invites the audience to have contact with culture. The public can experience internationally known artists who offer insight into their work.
In talks and lectures, the visitors learn about the contexts, backgrounds and objectives of artistic work; they also have the opportunity to talk with renowned representatives of theater, music, literature and visual arts.
The dance legend John Neumeier has influenced generations of dancers and choreographers, and has created classical ballet milestones. The Hamburg Ballett is an internationally celebrated company with an associated ballet school, the Stiftung John Neumeier and the Bundesjugendballett. His works combine traditions with modern, contemporary forms that belong to the repertoires of the leading ballet companies in the world.
On April 16th, John Neumeier will talk about his work with the dance critic Doris Weickmann. We are looking forward to this evening, which is curated by Regine Lorenz. The event is free of charge; however, we request that you register at: repraesentanz-berlin@allianz.com or fax 030/ 206 227 811.
ATTENTION: the event was rescheduled from April 15th to April 16th!
16.04.2015 / 7 pm Uhr Allianz Kulturforum, Pariser Platz 6, Berlin-Mitte
After four successful benefits at the Hamburg Ballett, the Friedrichstadtpalast, the Stuttgart Ballett and finally the big gala at the Staatstheater Kassel, numerous other benefits are taking place on the occasion of our five-year anniversary. In the context of TanzArt-ostwest, the Tanzcompagnie Giessen will once again appeal for donations for the Stiftung TANZ Transition Center Germany at the TanzArt Gala 2015 on May 23rd 2015. On June 6th 2015, the benefit event by the Dance Company Nanine Linning / Theater Heidelberg (Hieronymus B.) will follow, as will the Gauthier Dance Company on June 30th 2015 (KAMUYOT). In the fall at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Kevin O’Day Ballett NTM will celebrate a premiere of the Choreografische Werkstatt for our foundation on July 23rd 2015. In the upcoming season, the Bayerische Staatsballett will benefit our foundation with 5€ per ticket at the “Le Corsaire” performance on October 30th 2015.
Heartfelt thanks for the fantastic support!
In August 2015, we will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Transition counseling office. To celebrate, we would like to invite all of the dancers we have advised to a big barbeque on Wednesday August 12th 2015 starting at 7 pm!
Today we would like to ask all dance professionals if they possibly feel like giving us a little something back – in the form of a short greeting or congratulations and/or a small donation. Your congratulations (maximum: 10 words) will then be published in our anniversary brochure along with your name (or anonymous if you wish); this brochure will be published in the fall of 2015. In this anniversary brochure, we would like to reminisce but also look ahead. It will offer plenty of interesting information about our foundation’s work and the subject of transition. There will also be room for your greetings on a double page. Please send us your congratulations and greetings to heike.scharpff@stiftung-tanz.com or per mail to: Stiftung TANZ – Transition Zentrum Deutschland / Kollwitzstr. 64 / 10435 Berlin.
We welcome donations of any size, whether they be €20, €50 or even €100. Bank data: IBAN: DE71100700000064978000

You will receive a donation receipt in accordance with § 10b of the German income tax law as a matter of course.
After at least 24 months of working in permanent employment, an unemployed person in Germany currently receives 12 months of unemployment benefits (Arbeitslosengeld I), at 60% of his net income (68% with a child). In addition, the Arbeitsagentur covers social insurance. This period has generally proven to be too short for a complete career re-orientation. In this time you can apply for an education voucher at the Arbeitsagentur (for retraining in a school that is certified by the Arbeitsagentur). This application should be as concrete and convincing as possible. The individual work counselor at the Arbeitsagentur must be personally convinced by the career objectives. As a rule, they expect that a chance for new permanent employment exists after – and because of – the retraining measure. We strongly recommend applying in writing, since you can then officially object if the application is rejected. If you receive Arbeitslosengeld II (Hartz-4) due to need, you can also apply for continued education. If a retraining or continued education is supported by the Arbeitsagentur or Jobcenter, then not just the schooling costs but also the unemployment benefits are paid until the measure is completed.
RECOMMENDATION: It makes sense to start thinking about your career future while you are still active in your dance career. Contacts to other people in other careers or asking family members and friends can both help to get ideas for your career path. Please contact us early and take advantage of our counseling and our workshops (see below)!
IMPORTANT FOR ALL EMPLOYEES ABROAD who are planning their future in Germany: please start learning German (written and spoken) as soon as possible. Secure knowledge in a language is a basic prerequisite to receiving support from the Arbeitsagentur for retraining. Experience shows that learning German from scratch is hardly possible in 12 months without previous knowledge. To study at a German university, the absolute prerequisite is a mid-level ability at the B1 level or better; in language and communications-oriented study departments, for example medicine, law, teaching, etc… C1 knowledge is a requirement.

On June 15th and 16th 2015, a special communications workshop for dancers in transition will take place in Berlin for the first time. Participants will practice using their strengths for discussions and thus become more confident when speaking with employers (also choreographers) and institutions (e.g., Arbeitsagentur and Jobcenter). The workshop will take place in cooperation with the Tanzbüro Berlin; more information in the next newsletter.
The tried-and-true transition workshop „Visionsentwicklung“ by and with Katrin Kolo and Heike Scharpff will take place twice in 2015: on July 6th and 7th or 13th and 14th in Mannheim, and in early December at the Tanzhaus NRW in Düsseldorf. If you are interested, you can already let us know; we can then respect any scheduling preferences you have.
What happens after your dance career? What can excite and challenge me in a future career? The lecture by the Stiftung TANZ – Transition Center Germany project director Heike Scharpff includes information on the transition process and the foundation’s work, as well as information about the Arbeitsagentur/Jobcenter, further education, BAföG, the Bayerische Versorgungskammer etc.
Before and fter the approximately 45-minute lecture, dancers can schedule meetings for individual transition counseling (free and confidential). Registration at: info@stiftung-tanz.com
Monday, 4th may 7:45 pm at the Ballettsaal of Bayerisches Staatsballett München.
“On average, every adult sits for 11.5 hours per day; for grade school children, it is about nine hours a day.” (Wirtschaftswoche online from July 9th 2014) The one-sided load of the supporting and movement apparatus for hours on end has increased rapidly, especially because in the work and educational world people usually just sit. In the long term, this damages the body and can also negatively influence the body and emotional balance or general satisfaction of employees, thus negatively impacting their success and that of the company. This is a disadvantage for any affected people, but at the same time it opens up career opportunities for former dancers in company health management. More information about relevant transition measures at: info@stiftung-tanz.com.
Upholding and promoting the health of your employees has become an important part of the personnel work in many larger companies. BASF, Nike, SIEMENS or Nokia have various programs or course offerings in the company themselves or at cooperating partners such as Pilates studios, fitness studios, etc. On offer, among others: stress management, diverse movement programs, precautionary exercise or nutrition. During working hours or afterwards, employees have the opportunity to relax during yoga, do special back training or receive important nutritional tips. The statutory health insurances or company health insurance programs promote this special company health management through respective bonus systems, and the internal revenue service recognizes the relevant expenditures for individual health promotion. Certified trainers have good perspectives as freelancers or with permanent contracts directly at the companies or their cooperating partners.
