Annual Transition Group 2018
Munich, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Stuttgart & LeipzigFor dancers who are currently in the process of transitioning + would like to be part of a group to accompany them for this time. This group will deal with all questions that arise in the transitional period: detachment from active dance, coping with grief, recognition of further potential, decision-making for a new path, implementation of a concrete idea. At each meeting, there will be a group theme and time for the personal cause. The companionship of the group is supportive and encouraging.
The idea for this annual group comes from our French colleagues, who have been doing this format for years in Paris. We offered them as pilot groups in 2017 in Munich, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Berlin, and the participating dancers benefited consistently.

More Transition Support!
Result of the 1st conference of the networkdance-Initiativ 2017
Network Dance sees itself as representing the interests of dancers in the ballet and dance ensembles in Germany. The conferences of the Network Dance – for the first time in the summer of 2017 – are intended to promote the regular exchange between the ensemble speakers. Almost 30 ballet companies from all over Germany took part in 2017. An issue at the first meeting in 2017 was also the transition of dancers.„The limited time of a dancer’s career must absolutely be taken into account. The members of this House should proceed with caution. There is a small time window between 32 and 44 when dancers can collect their full compensation from the Bayerische Versorgungskammer. This regulation therefore determines when dancers are obliged to end their careers. We must allow greater freedom for and involvement from the dancers themselves. Transitioning must be seen as an unconditional part of this career. We should therefore fund a support program (not just counseling). The problem is that the transition-compensation is effectively the pension playoff the dancers. How can transition and old-age care be dealt with separately?“

Psychological Aspects of Transition 8: Both/And
Mit Denkblockaden umgehen übenThe process of finding a new orientation frequently involves barriers. These are largely the result of thought patterns which thwart the development of constructive new attitudes. It is necessary to recognize such destructive thought patterns, give yourself the permission to question them, and then dissolve them.

One typical thought pattern which can lead to a block lies in the thought “either/or!“. This thought pattern creates great pressure in the process of orientation, since dancers are especially wide-ranging in their interests and talents. Most of them have for example an interest in bodily work as well as artistic activity. The idea of having to choose between these options after leaving the dance world leads understandably to resistance and pressure. In such cases, it is helpful to ask: why is it even necessary to choose between the two? Can I not follow both talents? This line of questioning opens up perspectives in a new way and can even produce new ideas.

Your perspectives will be further widened when you give yourself permission to live out all your talents. These can be explored parallel to one another, as patch-work careers are no longer a rarity, and one can find pilates trainers who also work as photographers, or dance educators who also give painting courses etc. Another possibility is to combine different interest and talents into something completely new such as has never been given form. Once could for instance develop a pilates studio which features a new art exhibit every four weeks and a dance performance at each new opening. As artists, dancers are predestined to create new careers and enterprises. Which is why we defend the attitude of both/and instead of either/or! Develop new connections and don’t let yourself be defeated be negative thought patterns.

If you need companionship on your journey, don’t hesitate to use our free and confidential counseling services.

This user-friendly approach takes into consideration Heike Scharpff’s (registered psychologist, coach, theater director) many years of transition counseling.

Little Job Description: Animal Farmer
specialty: beekeepingLove of animals, interest in biology and ecology, lust for activities involving intensive movement in the outdoors, responsibility, endurance, and an engaged, independent work ethic are some of the most important requirements to becoming an animal farmer (1).  Those who are particularly interested in bees can specialize in beekeeping. They work among others in an apiary, breeding queens, and pollination operations, or are working in organic agriculture as a partner. The number of beekeepers is around 120 000 and the largest portion are in Bavaria (2). Beekeeping enjoys increasing popularity, particularly in cities. Urban beekeeping is often practiced with great enthusiasm, yet mostly as a hobby which, on account of lacking knowledge, is linked to great risks for bee populations. The professionalization of urban beekeeping by specialized animal farmers working independently or as a second job would therefore be highly desirable.

80% of all agricultural plants must be pollinated by bees if they are to bear fruit (3). „Beekeepers render a great environmental service by helping to pollinate blossoming flowers, while also producing a valuable food product. They feed and care for bee populations, maintain the bee housing and find a suitable location for their animals. When the honey combs are ready, they remove them and extract the honey. They observe standards of quality and hygiene.“ (4)

The dual certification of an animal farmer generally takes three years, but can also be completed in two in case of prior career training or abitur. One example of a state recognized training facility for beekeeping is the Lower-Saxon Institute for Bee Studies in Celle: www.laves.niedersachsen.de
